In this Internet Age, it is extremely important to know who we deal with online, every day. As we spend most of our hours online, details about us are registered on the web permanently and can be misused by strangers.
If you’re a victim of cyber harassment, it is imperative that you lodge a complaint as soon as it has occurred.
Most of us decide to wait and analyse the situation before wanting to report it. But, it’s always better to report it instantly as strict action can be taken against the offender. We also assume that the process is a rather long and tedious one, but you’d be surprised to know that it is quick and hassle-free.
Here’s what you need to do –
- Provide your name, address and contact details along with an application to the Head of Cyber Crime Investigation Cell, mentioning the offense.
- Attach all the relevant documents that act as proof for the crime committed against you (Email/Photo/Text Message/Video) and make sure you attach the hard and soft copy of the same.
- Make sure you don’t delete the offending email from your inbox.
- Always ensure to have a backup of the offending email.
In fact, the law has made it easier for those who want to file a complaint by doing it online.
You just have to send an email to the cyber cell in your locality. If that’s difficult, you can send your complaint to the local police who will guide you to the designated cyber cell.
