What’s a family safe word? It’s a word or phrase that you share strictly only with your immediate family members. Not even known to extended family members under any circumstances. It’s like a code that can prove lifesaving. It should be known only to parents & children or between couples. There are new AI scams every single day, this could save your life.
Let me give you once such AI scam that can be both financially and physically dangerous.
In recent times there’s an AI generated voice call that might come to you and the person on that call could look/ sound perfectly like somebody dear to you, a family member. They will say that they have been in an accident, or a mishap, have lost their phone so they could be calling from another number. A lady also reported that she got an audio call where her daughter was sobbing that she has been kidnapped and then another man’s voice demanded a ransom or he would hurt her.
This is a panic situation. Imagine if your elderly parents got such a call from someone who sounds exactly like you, they will immediately give that money or even rush to the ‘accident spot’. STOP! AI can generate voice even from a small piece of your audio available online or video to create images that are identical.
In such a scenario, its wonderful to have a safe word/phrase which could be name of a book but let it not be known publicly how much you like that book, a food dish, a TV program anything. Ask the caller to identify themselves by saying the safe word. Of course AI doesn’t know that.
This is also helpful if a small child is met with a criminal with bad intent who wants to whisk them away. Teach them to be situationally aware, and confidently ask for safe word. This can be practiced with extended family too. If they are uncomfortable, they can double check and if the person fails at telling their safe word, just refuse to cooperate.
Safe word is definitely one of the easiest ways to keep your family safe.
