As experts in digital safety, we at the Akancha Srivastava Foundation have worked with millions of children and parents, alongside psychologists and doctors, conducting over 1000 workshops. We have seen first hand how the digital world can expose children to significant risks, especially when their images are uploaded to AI platforms. It’s crucial that we protect children’s privacy and ensure their safety online. This video delves into the dangers of uploading children’s images to AI platforms, the implications of such actions, and why we must take a stand against it.

Why You Should Never Upload Your Child’s Picture to AI Platforms:

Privacy Concerns
Uploading pictures of children to AI platforms exposes their personal data or likeness without consent. Unlike traditional photos shared within a controlled environment, AI platforms may store and use these images in ways that you may not fully understand. This creates an opportunity for the exploitation of personal data, violating the privacy rights of your child. It’s important to consider the risks of sharing images without proper privacy protections in place.

Consent Issues
Children cannot provide informed consent. When you upload their images to AI platforms, you’re making decisions on their behalf that could have long-term implications. Without explicit permission from a legal guardian or parent, sharing children’s images can result in unethical and illegal use of their likeness. It is critical to be aware that children’s rights can be easily overlooked in the digital space, and these actions can open the door for their images to be exploited or misused.

Loss of Control Over Image Usage
Once you upload your child’s image to an AI platform, you lose control over how that image is used or shared. Many platforms may store these images and manipulate them to create stylized versions. This loss of control can lead to unwanted dissemination or manipulation of the image, which could misrepresent the child, violate privacy, or expose them to digital threats. You may not even be aware of how your child’s image is being used once it is uploaded, and in many cases, that image can circulate without your consent.

Legal Implications
Different countries have strict laws protecting children’s privacy, especially in the digital world. Uploading images without understanding the legal consequences could result in unintended legal risks, such as violating children’s protection laws or facing penalties for misuse of their likeness. Laws around data protection and digital rights are becoming more stringent, and you may unknowingly break these laws by uploading your child’s image to AI platforms. It’s crucial to be aware of the legal landscape to prevent unintended violations.

Ethical Concerns
AI platforms often stylize children’s images in ways that don’t align with their real identities. For example, the images could be altered to fit unrealistic beauty standards or distorted in ways that affect the child’s sense of self. The portrayal of children in this way raises serious concerns about their emotional well-being and body image, as it might lead to self-esteem issues or unrealistic expectations. It’s vital to question the ethics of altering a child’s image and consider the long-term impact on their mental health.

Blog By Akancha Srivastava

What if I told you that the photo of your favorite celebrity—Shreya Ghoshal, Shah Rukh Khan, Virat Kohli—is being used to trap you into a scam?

That’s exactly what’s happening.

Recently, singer Shreya Ghoshal publicly released a video warning people that her images were being used without her consent in fake advertisements on social media. These ads were styled like legitimate news headlines and circulated through sponsored posts, trying to bait users into clicking suspicious links. Shreya was clear—she has not endorsed any such content, and her name is being misused.

She’s not the only one. Multiple celebrity photos are being used the same way—without permission—to gain false trust and trick users. Some of these scam posts are even promoted through verified accounts.

Let’s be clear—these are not safe links.

They are malicious phishing links designed to:

Install malware on your phone or laptop

Steal your personal data—contacts, messages, photos

Gain access to your camera, microphone, and location

Lead to financial fraud, identity theft, or blackmail

Compromise your privacy and safety

This is not a hypothetical risk. These attacks are real, sophisticated, and evolving rapidly.

Many people fall for these scams because the ads look polished. But if you pause and observe, the language, urgency, and dramatic tone are telltale signs. Always remember—if it sounds too unbelievable to be true, it probably is.

And let’s also be mindful—genders can be flipped in these scams. The target or the bait could be a man, woman, or child depending on who the fraudster is trying to trap. This isn’t about one demographic—it’s about all of us being at risk in the digital space.

What should you do?

Never click on random links, no matter how familiar or exciting they look

You’re Not in Love. You’re Being Hunted.

It starts with a random video call.
A pretty face. Flirty smile. Hearts flying on the screen.
You’re flattered. She’s into you.
Feels like a lucky moment—until it turns into a nightmare.

This is not affection. It’s a setup.

Behind that charming face is often a scammer—sometimes even a man—recording your reactions, capturing your vulnerability, and preparing to weaponise it against you through blackmail.

This is a cybercrime tactic we’ve seen repeatedly. And while this post addresses boys, the roles can absolutely be reversed. Women are targeted too. Predators don’t follow one script—they exploit wherever they see emotional or digital vulnerability.

These scams are designed to:

Catch you off-guard when you’re relaxed or lonely

Build false intimacy quickly

Coerce or threaten you once they’ve gained your trust

WhatsApp is one of the most widely used messaging platforms, but cybercriminals have found ways to exploit it. From hacking accounts through social engineering to stealing personal data, scams are on the rise. Today, we’ll break down how scammers target users, the real risks involved, and how you can stay safe.

How Are Scammers Hacking WhatsApp?

Cybercriminals use several tactics to gain access to your WhatsApp account. The most common methods include:

OTP Scams:

You receive an unexpected OTP (one-time password) via SMS or WhatsApp.

A scammer—often impersonating a friend, family member, or even WhatsApp support—calls or messages you, claiming they sent the OTP by mistake and need you to share it.

The moment you share the OTP, they gain control of your account, locking you out.

Call Forwarding Fraud:

Scammers trick you into dialing a specific number (usually disguised as a service request).

This number activates call forwarding on your phone, redirecting incoming calls—including OTP verification calls—to the scammer’s device.

They use this to take over your WhatsApp account and reset your login.

Malicious Links and Phishing Attacks:

Fraudulent messages claim your WhatsApp will be suspended unless you verify your account via a link.

Clicking on the link leads to a fake login page where you unknowingly enter your credentials, allowing hackers to steal your account.

Fake Technical Support Scams:

You receive a message from someone pretending to be WhatsApp support, asking you to confirm your account details or enter a verification code.

WhatsApp will never ask for your personal data via messages—this is always a scam.

WhatsApp Web Hijacking:

Scammers gain temporary access to your phone and secretly scan the QR code to log into WhatsApp Web on their device.

Once logged in, they can read your messages and collect personal data without you noticing.

What Happens When Your WhatsApp Gets Hacked?

Identity Theft: Hackers may impersonate you to scam your contacts, asking for money or sensitive details.

Financial Fraud: Scammers can access linked payment apps and misuse your financial details.

Data Breach: Personal messages, photos, and videos can be leaked or used against you.

Blackmail & Extortion: Criminals might threaten to misuse your data unless you pay a ransom.

How to Secure Your WhatsApp from Hackers

Enable Two-Step Verification:

Go to Settings > Account > Two-step verification and set up a PIN.

Even if a hacker gets your OTP, they won’t be able to access your account without this PIN.

Never Share OTPs:

WhatsApp OTPs are private. NEVER share them, even if someone claims to be from WhatsApp support.

Avoid Clicking Suspicious Links:

Be wary of links sent via unknown contacts or even friends if they seem unusual.

Check for Unauthorized WhatsApp Web Sessions:

Go to Settings > Linked Devices and ensure no unknown devices are logged in.

Turn Off Call Forwarding:

Dial ##21# on your phone to disable all call forwarding.

Educate Your Family & Friends:

Make sure your contacts, especially elderly family members or young users, know about these scams.

What to Do If Your WhatsApp is Hacked?

Immediately log out all devices:

Go to WhatsApp > Settings > Linked Devices > Log out from all devices.

Re-register your WhatsApp account:

Try logging in again with your number and request a new OTP.

Alert WhatsApp Support:

Email support@whatsapp.com with the subject “Lost/Stolen Account” and explain your situation.

Inform Your Contacts:

Let them know your account was compromised and warn them not to respond to unusual messages from you.

A SIM swap scam is a type of fraud in which cybercriminals take control of your mobile phone number. This scam is typically carried out through social engineering, where the fraudster deceives your telecom service provider into transferring your phone number to a new SIM card that they control. Once they have control of your phone number, they can use it to access sensitive accounts, intercept messages, and steal your personal information. This type of scam is particularly dangerous because it targets the two-factor authentication (2FA) that many services rely on for extra security.

How SIM Swap Scams Work:

Gathering Information:

Phishing and social engineering: The scammers typically begin by gathering as much personal information about you as possible. This can be done through social media, phishing emails, data breaches, or even purchasing information from the dark web. The more they know about you, the more convincing they can be when contacting your telecom provider.

Impersonating You:

The scammer will contact your mobile service provider, pretending to be you. They may use the personal information they’ve gathered to convince customer service agents that they are you. This can include knowing your full name, date of birth, address, or even the answers to security questions that the telecom provider uses for account verification.

Requesting a SIM Swap:

Once the scammer has convinced the provider that they are you, they will request to transfer your phone number to a new SIM card. This request is often made by phone or email. They might say they’ve lost their phone, damaged their SIM, or simply need a new one.

Gaining Access to Your Phone:

After the SIM swap is approved, your phone will lose service, and the scammer’s phone will begin receiving your calls and messages, including any One-Time Passwords (OTPs) or 2FA codes that are sent to your number. These OTPs are used by services such as email accounts, online banking, and social media to confirm your identity when logging in.

Stealing Your Information or Money:

With control over your phone number, the scammer can now easily reset passwords on various accounts that are linked to your phone number. Since many accounts rely on SMS-based 2FA to verify identity, the hacker can gain access to your email, bank account, social media profiles, and even crypto wallets.

The scammer may transfer funds, change account settings, or access sensitive personal information.

Covering Their Tracks:

Once they’ve gained access to your accounts, the scammer may take steps to cover their tracks, such as changing your account recovery details, locking you out of your accounts, or making it difficult for you to reverse the fraud.

Common Targets of SIM Swap Scams:

Online banking and financial services: These are prime targets because they are often linked to 2FA via SMS, which is easy for scammers to intercept.

Cryptocurrency wallets and exchanges: Since cryptocurrencies rely heavily on secure access to wallets, fraudsters are keen to target crypto investors through SIM swapping.

Social media accounts: Once scammers gain control of your social media accounts, they may steal your identity, spread malware, or use your profiles for other malicious activities.

Email accounts: Access to email accounts can be used to reset passwords for other online services, providing the scammer access to even more personal information.

How to Protect Yourself from SIM Swap Scams:

Use Strong Authentication Methods:

Avoid SMS-based 2FA: While SMS-based two-factor authentication (2FA) is better than just using a password, it’s not foolproof. Switch to more secure forms of 2FA such as authenticator apps (like Google Authenticator or Authy) or hardware keys (like YubiKey).

Set Up a PIN or Password with Your Telecom Provider:

Contact your mobile carrier and set up a PIN or password on your account that is required for any changes to your account, such as a SIM swap. This additional layer of security makes it harder for fraudsters to impersonate you and complete the SIM swap.

Monitor Your Accounts Closely:

Regularly monitor your bank accounts, credit card statements, and social media accounts for any unusual or unauthorized activity. If you notice anything suspicious, take immediate action.

Be Cautious with Personal Information:

Be mindful of what personal information you share online. Avoid oversharing on social media, as this can be used to gain access to your accounts.

Alert Your Mobile Carrier About Suspicious Activity:

If you suspect you’re the target of a SIM swap scam, contact your mobile service provider immediately and ask them to put additional security measures on your account. Some carriers offer SIM lock features, which prevent unauthorized changes to your account.

Set Up Account Alerts:

Many financial institutions and online services allow you to set up account alerts for changes to your account, such as password resets, login attempts, or other significant activity. This can help you catch fraud early.

Use Encrypted Communication:

Use encrypted messaging services like Signal or WhatsApp that do not rely on phone numbers for authentication and are less vulnerable to SIM swapping.

Signs You Might Be a Victim of a SIM Swap:

Loss of service on your phone: If your phone suddenly loses signal or shows “No Service,” it could indicate that your number has been swapped.

Unexpected password reset notifications: If you suddenly receive notifications for password changes or account access requests, it could be a sign that the scammer is gaining control of your accounts.

Receiving unusual activity alerts from your bank: If you get alerts from your bank about transactions you didn’t initiate or security alerts you didn’t expect, it’s a strong indicator of fraud.

Conclusion:

SIM swap scams are a growing threat, and while they can be difficult to prevent, taking proactive steps to secure your accounts can significantly reduce your risk. By implementing stronger authentication methods, being cautious with your personal data, and regularly monitoring your accounts, you can protect yourself from falling victim to this type of cybercrime.
