‘Digital Detention’ explained in steps:

• Imagine if you suddenly received a call from someone posing as a senior police officer (could be a popular one who is often in the news), CBI, or ED saying that you are under investigation for illegal narcotics activity or money laundering.
• The call could also be an IVR saying that you are under investigation for an illegal activity prompting you to press further numbers to proceed. Thereby it sounds extremely professional, doesn’t raise any suspicion
• You could also be informed that a FedEx parcel containing drugs or illegal passports has been seized.
• It’s extremely scary for the victim at the time as the person on the phone does sound authoritative, they will share their badge number to gain your confidence
• Victim could also be traumatized by the caller claiming that your child/ loved one is involved in gruesome crime and the only way out is to answer the questions truthfully.
• You are immediately put into “digital detention/ online arrest” where you are subjected to strict interrogation online via Skype or WhatsApp calls, even on video, about your alleged involvement in criminal activities
• If on Skype video, the set-up is elaborate, right from the display profile picture to the malicious actor’s uniform, it does indeed look like police official’s office. He/ She will also be signing files, asking someone to get your papers, receive a call or two to establish authenticity.
• With deepfake technology, they can look like any of us senior officers. All logos are properly in place like Maharashtra Police, Delhi Police etc.
• They know your Aadhar card details, bank account details and in some cases even your shares/ MF/ demat account details. You are instructed to immediately liquify your investments and transfer all the money in to an “RBI” account until the investigation concludes
• You are prohibited from stepping out of your home, isolated, forbidden from contacting anyone, making calls, talking to family members, attending office or even stepping away from range of cameras from which you are being monitored 24×7. You are literally a prisoner in those confines
• This trauma is carried on for a period of few days until you are a wreck from psychological pressure plus your shares/investments are liquified & deposited into your savings account
• The moment you transfer the money into so called RBI account for safe keeping for duration of investigation, you have lost your entire life’s savings! This money is actually gone forever. By the time you get out of the shock, the trauma, the money is already transferred via a complex system of channeling via various different countries

100s of such cases of “digital detention” are emerging every single day. Very well-educated persons like Double doctorates, industrialists, journalists have fallen prey to these scams. Below this video, few of the links are posted.

Beware everyone, this scam is dangerous, it can drive you to the limits of your sanity. No senior police officer will ever ask you to transfer money to another account, none will use intimidation tactic to allegedly resolve a case involving your loved ones, nobody can stop you from speaking to your family/ lawyer or restrict you from stepping out of your own home.

Call 1930 within golden hour if you ever fall victim to such crime.

1. Fake Wedding Invitation:
   • The attacker sends a message that looks like an invitation to a wedding or other event, often accompanied by attractive images, videos, or even a personalized message.
   • The message may claim that the recipient is invited to a wedding, which seems legitimate at first glance. It often includes an exciting offer, like an exclusive link to RSVP, gift details, or event photos.
2. Link to Download APK:
   • The message will usually contain a link that prompts the recipient to “click here” to download more details, such as the wedding details, event schedule, or RSVP form.
   • This link will direct the recipient to a page that encourages them to download an APK file (Android Package). This APK file is presented as a legitimate app but is, in fact, malicious software.
3. Malware Installation:
   • Once the user downloads and installs the APK, the malware is activated on the device. This malware can take several forms, including:
     • Spyware: Collects personal data like contacts, messages, and browsing history.
     • Ransomware: Locks the device or encrypts files and demands payment to unlock.
     • Banking Trojans: Steal login credentials for online banking or other apps.
     • Remote Access Trojans (RATs): Allows hackers to remotely control the victim’s device, access sensitive information, or use the device for malicious activities.
4. Further Exploitation:
   • The malware may also attempt to propagate by sending similar fake invites to the victim’s contacts, leading to further infection and widening the scope of the scam.
   • In some cases, the malware may also be used to steal the victim’s financial details or make unauthorized transactions.

Why It’s Dangerous:

• Social Engineering: The scam preys on social trust, using a familiar and often emotionally significant context (like a wedding) to lure the victim into trusting the message.
• Undetected Malware: Since the malware is delivered through an APK rather than an official app store, it often bypasses the security checks found on trusted platforms like Google Play Store, making it harder to detect.
• Wide Reach: WhatsApp is used by millions, and these scams can spread rapidly, affecting a large number of people, particularly those who are less tech-savvy.

How to Protect Yourself:

1. Don’t Download APKs from Unknown Sources: Always avoid downloading apps or files from links shared in messages from unknown or untrusted sources. Stick to official app stores like the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
2. Enable App Verification: On Android devices, ensure that “Install from unknown sources” is disabled in the settings. This prevents APK files from being installed unless they are from trusted sources.
3. Use Reliable Security Software: Install and regularly update a trusted security app that can detect and block malicious software.
4. Verify the Source: If you receive a wedding invite or other unexpected message, confirm with the sender (via a phone call or direct contact) to verify that the invitation is legitimate before clicking on any links.
5. Be Cautious with Links: Avoid clicking on unfamiliar links, especially if they seem to offer “too good to be true” deals or include an urgent call to action.

What to Do if You’ve Fallen Victim:

• Disconnect from the Internet: If you suspect your phone has been compromised, disconnect from Wi-Fi and mobile data to prevent further communication with the malicious server.
• Run a Security Scan: Use a reputable antivirus app to scan and remove any malware.
• Factory Reset (if necessary): If the malware is persistent, you may need to factory reset your device (make sure to back up important data beforehand).
• Notify Contacts: If the malware has spread through your contacts, notify them so they don’t fall victim to the scam as well.

I have said it earlier and I am saying it again that playing online games is not bad in itself. In fact it teaches team play, strategic thinking, quick decision making and leadership.

However discernment in how much time child is pending playing these games and what kind of information they are sharing with strangers/ other players is what decides if it’s a healthy habit or addiction/ unsafe. Its like a piece of cake once in a while when you have a healthy lifestyle, you are walking, running playing sports is fine but if you have a full size cake every single day you will have diabetes!

First- money and online games. Recently there was an incident where a scammer under false identity connected to a child via an online game and promised to upgrade his game level, also give him more armor/ weapons (lots of games where you need them to defeat your enemy), give them new skin/ clothes.

These scammers monitor how much time the child is spending on the game so that they know how likely he/she is to fall into the trap. Once the child is convinced, they tell the kid that we are sending a link which they need to click may be to agree to terms and you will receive the upgrade.

Child is curious and they immediately click on the link. We all know things that can happen with that single click! Your system can be compromised, all information can be hacked, data on that machine can be stolen. In this particular incident that child’s family pictures and some sensitive data was stolen. Then he was threatened that his parents morphed nude pictures would be circulated online, sensitive information will be disclosed, they will be shamed. Child got scared and even transferred some money via the transactions as strictly monitored by these criminals! Yes, its pretty much possible once they had control of the system.

VIDEOAdditionally, this could also be life threatening. Child predators/ groomers are lurking online to prey on children, their ID could show they are 14 years but they could be pedophiles who could slowly lure the child into meeting them alone at some point with the sole intention of assaulting them. They could also talk the child into sharing information about home, family members, where the valuables are kept for burglary.

Teach these safety measures to your child- all habits in moderation especially consuming online content or playing games. Not to share information with strangers online and even lie when necessary, like oh my mom is always around, I have too many people at home always, I am never alone!

Build a relationship of trust with children. Curious, intelligent children make mistakes. Give them the confidence that they can talk to you. Spend inclusive online time with them to know their interests, friends, games. Do combined activities outdoors. You got this!

“Most of the time, the child receives only certain sensations (visual and / or auditory) from a virtual environment, and can not correlate these visual and auditory sensations with other types of sensations: vestibular, tactile, odor, tasteless, unable to develop accordingly. This can lead to speech delay. Cognitive abilities can be affected as well, possibly leading to mental disorders. Excessive screen time can disrupt the natural developmental processes of young children, affecting their social interactions, language development, and cognitive abilities [1]. Increased screen time in young children has been associated with negative health outcomes, including decreased cognitive ability, impaired language development, mood issues, and autistic-like behavior such as hyperactivity, short attention span, and irritability

It was found that even the light-dark rhythms that help the brain produce melatonin, dopamine, and increase a child’s understanding of their relationship to themselves and others can be messed up with too much screen exposure.

These phenomena can cause children to experience screen withdrawal when they are separated from the world they have immersed themselves in for so long. They can lose their ability to sleep properly, interact with others, and can become depressed and even angry. The aggression that can accompany this can further damage their relationships, and leave them with low self esteem.

Virtual autism can also result in hyperactivity-like behaviours in affected children. Increased screen time has been associated with short attention spans and hyperactivity. Some common hyperactivity challenges experienced by children with virtual autism include:

• Restlessness and difficulty sitting still.
• Impulsivity and acting without considering consequences.
• Difficulty following instructions and rules.
• Rapidly shifting attention between tasks.
• Impaired attention span and focus.
• Delayed speech and language development.
• Difficulties in understanding and processing information.
• Challenges with problem-solving and critical thinking.
• Frequent tantrums and meltdowns.
• Increased sensitivity to sensory stimuli.
• Agitation and frustration in response to changes or transitions.
• Difficulty regulating emotions and expressing needs.

They are not situationally aware, absent minded, might have frequent injuries, falls, not paying attention to what they are doing/ walking- very dangerous

“To limit the time spent by the child in front of the TV, tablet, computer, mobile phone, parents should adhere to certain rules:

• Make a daily schedule to follow with the child.
• Establish rules for the use of the TV, the computer, and the phone by the child
• Remove any gadget from the child’s visual contact
• Offering rewards when the child respects the daily schedule
• Building a special place in the house with exciting things that can be used when the child gets bored and wishes to play on the tablet. So the focus will be on something new
• The TV and the computer will be closed while homework is being done
• TV shows, computer games will be chosen with discernment Physical activities, walking will be of great significance

Physical activities have a major impact on the emotional development of the child. Emotional health is very important for the development of the child and can be greatly stimulated by movement. With the help of sport, the child grows physically, mentally and emotionally fulfilled. Sport stimulates interactions. With the help of it, children will learn to be patient with others, to wait for their turn, to be responsible, to respect others, to be accountable, to cope with unexpected situations, to adapt more easily. And last but not least, they will make friends of the same age with them and with similar passions.”

Getting kids’ out in the world is a good step in the right direction. Social interaction with peers, moving their bodies, playing and exploring the world in a hands-on way can boost brain development and mood. This can prevent virtual autism symptoms, as well as reduce them.

We learned above that the children who had the most effects from too much screen exposure were the ones who lacked parent-child interaction.

We must look for ways to increase our child’s movement and interaction. The more activities we do that combine movement, social skills, and sensory input the better.

Here are some suggestions of things we can do with our children:

• Yoga
• Puzzles
• Fishing
• Board games
• Building blocks
• Hiking
• Cooking
• Drawing or colouring
• Visiting an aquarium or zoo
• Going to the beach

Spend time with children, be observant. Any exhibit of isolation, increased irritability, inability to express should be addressed immediately.

There have been several reports of people complaining that a delivery person from an online portal showed up at their door and we have already spoken about in a previous video in detail that you can be scammed into given away an OTP or clicking on a phishing link by the person.

However today let’s talk about how it can be physically dangerous for you if you even open the door to entertain such a scamster. I read this story of a lady on Twitter where she had booked an appointment for some blood tests from a reputed lab and someone reached her doorstep 4 hours earlier to the designated slot and due to suspicion, she smartly refused to let the person in the house.

Now, most online shopping portals send us a text/ whatsapp when our parcel is arriving, several items also need an OTP that is generated closer to time of arrival. Always track if you are expecting a delivery before you open the door for a delivery person.

If you have a CCTV/ door camera great, you can always look through that screen and accept or refuse a delivery should you feel uncomfortable with the person’s body language. If they insist on having your signature, you could ask them to wait at the watchman’s desk in the building and offer to sign it there or in worse case, just refuse the parcel in any case.

So how does someone know if at all you have ordered something online- I have given a detailed explanation on how that happens please take a look. How did someone know if someone has requested a blood test? This is a very serious issue and don’t let it go if it ever happens with you. Either there is a hack in the system of that lab from where patient data is being leaked or someone from their office is leaking that data!

This is far more dangerous than what its sounding to you even now.

Your entire medical history, any vulnerability, sick family members, address, phone number everything is now out for misuse. Same is the case with fake delivery persons. The kind of items you frequently order are good indicators of your family members, age groups, income, of course your address and phone number are already online!

‘Akancha Srivastava Foundation’ partnered with Haryana Police to spread awareness about #Dial112- Emergency Response Number And cyber safety.

We were invited by Bhiwani Police, Haryana to spread awareness about their powerful safety initiatives on ground especially for girls & children safety. Together we conducted back to back cyber safety awareness workshops as young adults/ children or even adults are addicted to internet today.

Delighted to share how wonderfully the girl students accepted the workshops, their takeaway & most importantly their courage! It is heart warming to listen that we were able to inspire them to stand up for themselves & speak up for themselves. These kids are all set to spread their wings and fly into the world towards their careers, new cities, new paths. We are thankful to have played a small role in handholding them in this journey. This is the kind of confidence we wish to keep fuelling in youth so that they can take a stand for themselves and for others. We are thankful to the students who trusted us with their personal stories, we are in touch with them to help in any way possible.

Having Bhiwani Police women police officers along with us has further raised the respect in our hearts for law enforcement. We got insights into how hard they work in the region, listen to victims with compassion & with a stern hand when dealing with a criminal. Grateful to such committed, dedicated police personnel who are in service of the nation 24×7.

Let us tell you some more about  #Dial112 emergency response number -a fantastic set up especially for girls who can download this app and fill their basic information which allows police to track their location.

All e rickshaws in Bhiwani have been given a unique ID and their driver’s details registered with the Police. In case of any such situation where a girl is feeling unsafe during travel, she simply has to Dial 112 and trigger emergency response. Patrol cars reach the victim within minutes with this ‘trip management service’. They even double check to ensure that the caller has reached their destination safely. Additionally Bhiwani Police has deployed women Police personnel in plain clothes at ‘hot spots’ & ‘hot routes’.

These spots cover entrances of schools & colleges, shopping malls, bus stations, train stations, public parks, food courts, popular travel routes. These personnel immediately intervene at any sign of harassment.

Our Foundation was glad to be invited to be a part of this initiative where we educated thousands of young students across school & colleges about cyber safety and Bhiwani Police measures. Enriching experience for us to witness this change within interiors of the country. We hope to continue this police public, knowledge partnership for long term social change as we have been doing for last many years.

‘Akancha Srivastava Foundation’ partnered with Haryana Police to spread awareness about #Dial112- Emergency Response Number and cyber safety.

We were invited by Bhiwani Police, Haryana to spread awareness about their powerful safety initiatives on ground especially for girls & children safety. Together we conducted back to back cyber safety awareness workshops as young adults/ children or even adults are addicted to internet today.

We addressed 2500+ children on day 1 at the beautiful Halwasiya Vidya Vihar school. Extremely encouraging participation, enthusiasm and the open mindedness of children gives us tremendous hope. At the Foundation we have always maintained that children today are very bright and all they need is our handholding. We need to speak to them in all honesty and become good examples of what we preach.

Thankful to Vimal Acharya Sir, the Principal, all teachers but especially children who   showered us with so much love. Our Founder Ms Akancha Srivastava is a huge favorite with children. Her genuine affection & ability to convey the trickiest message in simplest form has always worked wonders with adults & children alike. As you will see in this video as well.

Having Bhiwani Police women police officers along with us in this drive has further raised the respect in our hearts for law enforcement. We got insights into how hard they work in the region, listen to victims with compassion & with a stern hand when dealing with a criminal. Grateful to such committed, dedicated police personnel who are in service of the nation 24×7.

About  #Dial112 emergency response number -a fantastic set up especially for girls who can download this app and fill their basic information which allows police to track their location.

All e-rickshaws in Bhiwani have been given a unique ID and their driver’s details registered with the Police. In case of any such situation where a girl is feeling unsafe during travel, she simply has to Dial 112 and trigger emergency response. Patrol cars reach the victim within minutes with this ‘trip management service’. They even double check to ensure that the caller has reached their destination safely. Additionally Bhiwani Police has deployed women Police personnel in plain clothes at ‘hot spots’ & ‘hot routes’.

These spots cover entrances of schools & colleges, shopping malls, bus stations, train stations, public parks, food courts, popular travel routes. These personnel immediately intervene at any sign of harassment.

Our Foundation was glad to be invited to be a part of this initiative where we educated thousands of young students across school & colleges about cyber safety and Bhiwani Police measures. Enriching experience for us to witness this change within interiors of the country. We hope to continue this police- public knowledge partnership for long term social change as we have been doing for last many years.

We look forward to visiting Bhiwani again to conduct more such impactful trainings.

ADG Krishna Prakash Sir (Force One, Maharashtra Police) strongly recommends habit of reading for a richer understanding or history, better vocabulary, confidence and overall personality development.

ADG Krishna Prakash Sir also believes that one needs to read every single day whether it’s literature, poetry, current affairs or even a comic book. He shares his own life story when his father encouraged his reading habit and requested Sir’s mother to allow him to read as he wishes during summer holidays even if it was comics. Even Google today has excellent resources on free reads.

Scientifically, it has been proven that reading books increases our attention span, ability to focus. It also enhances imagination & free thinking. Knowledge earned via any reading is never wasted. It remains in our subconscious woven together like a shield of wisdom that protects during the time when its needed.

We were invited by Bhiwani Police, Haryana to spread awareness about their powerful safety initiatives on ground especially for girls & children safety. Together we conducted back to back cyber safety awareness workshops as young adults/ children or even adults are addicted to internet today.

We visited the lovely Rajiv Gandhi Govt. College For Women. Students embraced the knowledge with such an open mind, it was truly heartening. Girls are much more aware now, they just need our handholding and confidence that they have support. It I sour collective responsibility to build a secure future for them.

We are so happy to hear testimony of not just girl students but also young boys who attended our training at the prestigious  ‘Technological Institute of Textile and Sciences College’ Bhiwani. Cyber Safety education needs to be made mandatory for all students across schools and colleges. After listening to feedback from the students, we are further assured that it’s a matter of handholding the younger generation. They are wise, intelligent, and willing to implement the knowledge if they are guided in the right direction.
