You just can’t deprive children of internet in today’s world. Technology is wonderful. Children have to know how to use technology mindfully instead. It would be truly constructive if parents work along with kids in setting healthy boundaries.

3 tips on how you can ensure that children are safe while using technology:

 FIRSTLY- BUILDING TRUST

Inclusion and not control should be the strategy. Do remember your childhood. Anything your parents banned you from using, you would definitely want to try!

Therefore, spend time together on the internet to identify your children’s interests instead. Learn about games they play, videos they watch, show them that you would like to genuinely know more.

We can’t brush things under the carpet. Children are so scared to speak to their own parents when things go wrong cos, we don’t talk to them like their confidantes.

In an overwhelming sexual assault cases against minors, the offender is known to the victim- Means neighbor/ relative/ shop keeper/ trainer. Child must know that even if they made a mistake online by talking to somebody unknown, trusting a stranger, they can come to you.

Please explain good touch bad touch online gently to them, find teachable moments

If they feel uncomfortable by any conversation even if it’s by an elder- they should be able trust to tell you

Secondly if possible please keep his/her machine in a place at home so that you can keep a watch on screen. When you are walking by, you can notice whom they are speaking with, what they are doing.

You don’t know if they are sweet talked by any predator

Remember that good children make bad choices at times.

THIRDLY– Build no tech time & device free zones for family

Children learn via curiosity & imitation. Set good example with your own behavior.

It’s very important that you spend little no technology time together. Build tech device free zones like dining table or living rooms, sit together as family, discuss things, read, talk to each other. If you are glued to technology then don’t expect kids to be any different

Exhibit mindful use with your own behavior.

Lastly, educate children on good consumption of content online – You tube, free books, writing skills, hobbies, music.

‘Akancha Srivastava Foundation’ partnered with Haryana Police to spread awareness about #Dial112- Emergency Response Number And cyber safety.

We were invited by Bhiwani Police, Haryana to spread awareness about their powerful safety initiatives on ground especially for girls & children safety. Together we conducted back to back cyber safety awareness workshops as young adults/ children or even adults are addicted to internet today.

Do watch the testimony of a young student who was fired up with passion after attending our workshop. This is the kind of confidence we wish to keep fuelling in youth so that they can take a stand for themselves and for others. We are thankful to the students who trusted us with their personal stories, we are in touch with them to help in any way possible.

Having Bhiwani Police women police officers along with us in these 3 days has further raised the respect in our hearts for law enforcement. We got insights into how hard they work in the region, listen to victims with compassion & with a stern hand when dealing with a criminal. Grateful to such committed, dedicated police personnel who are in service of the nation 24×7.

Let us tell you some more about  #Dial112 emergency response number -a fantastic set up especially for girls who can download this app and fill their basic information which allows police to track their location.

All e rickshaws in Bhiwani have been given a unique ID and their driver’s details registered with the Police. In case of any such situation where a girl is feeling unsafe during travel, she simply has to Dial 112 and trigger emergency response. Patrol cars reach the victim within minutes with this ‘trip management service’. They even double check to ensure that the caller has reached their destination safely. Additionally Bhiwani Police has deployed women Police personnel in plain clothes at ‘hot spots’ & ‘hot routes’.

These spots cover entrances of schools & colleges, shopping malls, bus stations, train stations, public parks, food courts, popular travel routes. These personnel immediately intervene at any sign of harassment.

Our Foundation was glad to be invited to be a part of this initiative where we educated thousands of young students across school & colleges about cyber safety and Bhiwani Police measures. Enriching experience for us to witness this change within interiors of the country. We hope to continue this police public, knowledge partnership for long term social change as we have been doing for last many years.

We conducted a cybercrime investigation training for Pimpri Chinchwad Police (PCMC), specifically on OSINT, on February 15^th, 2024. This was supported by SBI Foundation.

We trained the PCMC Police on cybercrime investigation on February 15^th, 2024 at the Police Headquarters. Big thanks to Commissioner of Police Vinay Choubey Sir, DCP Crime Sandeep Doipode Sir & ACP Vinay Muglikar Sir for the encouragement and great attendance at the training.

Encouraging to have Assistant Commissioner Sir & Cyber Cell officers enthusiastically  participate in the workshop. Demonstrates openness of Indian Police to proactively track and deploy new tools available in investigation of cybercrimes.

We are glad that the Foundation of our country’s largest bank (SBI) that serves over one fourth of banking population of India all by itself believes that cyber security is a critical topic for one and all, especially for banks, customers.

We received pertinent questions during the training that we were happy to answer. Follow up trainings were requested which we will conduct soon.

Hope to continue this knowledge partnership as we have been doing for last 7 years, glad to share our expertise as part of serving the nation via the law enforcement.

We were invited by Bhiwani Police, Haryana to step up awareness about their fantastic initiatives on ground especially for girls & children safety.

Top amongst that is their #Dial112 emergency response number. Girls in particular can download this app and fill their basic information which allows police to track their location. All e rickshaws in Bhiwani have been given a unique ID and their driver’s details registered with the Police. In case of any such situation where a girl is feeling unsafe during travel, she simply has to Dial 112 and trigger emergency response.

Glad to share that SBI Foundation has come on board under their CSR Initiative for a series of workshops to be organised by ‘Akancha Srivastava Foundation’. These workshops will include Mumbai, Pune & rest of Maharashtra law enforcement.

Cyber crime investigation is a critical aspect of understand modus operandi of criminals online and finding newest & fastest ways to get to them . Our panel of highly skilled investigators will be conducting these interactive trainings where we will address cases received by different city police and exhibiting tools/techniques to close them.

SBI is the largest Indian Bank with 1/4th market share, serves over 48 crore customers through its vast network of over 22,405 branches, 65,627 ATMs/ADWMs, 76,089 BC outlets. When an institution like SBI steps forward to build a cyber secure India, its’ a turning point in the effort as it shows will of a robust brand like them to build proactive measures to give back to the country, protect their customers.

We are delighted to have Mohit Chauhan join us in the mentor panel. His expertise in banking & related financial fields has been an asset for us in the last few years when has advised us continuously as a friend and proven to be an excellent sound board for the cause.

We also take Mohit’s take on our communication designs seriously. It gives us a different perspective on how the content is being consumed by public at large, especially in corporate or those who may or may not be paying active attention to the topic on a daily basis.

Profile– Mohit is a senior transaction banking leader & professional with 16+ years of Sales & Product management experience across multinational banks in India. He is currently assuming the role of Associate Director & Regional head of Transaction Banking Sales with BNP Paribas India and with his team, works closely with corporates to identify and address efficiency items in their operating flows viz Cash Management, Trade Finance, Supply Chain and Transaction-Digitalization.

Prior to this, he has worked with banks like DBS, Deutsche and HSBC which have been at the forefront of technological evolution of banking in India. As a career transaction banker, Mohit has been involved in the transformation initiatives across the roles, in line with the vision of corporate India.

By the virtue of his line of work, he has been a close-quarter participant in the digital-revolution that the country is experiencing and is personally a huge fan of P2E (Paper to Electronic).

Digitalization is very close to his heart and thus whether in his work or in his personal ecosystem, he has been a vocal change-agent to make people get comfortable with this new world order where most of what we do, will have an incrementally greater mix of online vis a vis offline. While this shift is supremely rewarding, the downsides are also incumbent and thus the vision of a safer cyber-world for everyone is at the very fulcrum of his endeavors. He is an ardent admirer of data-led leadership & decision-making and truly believes that technology is going to be the biggest differentiator in future. Another paradigm that he is keenly observing and is intrigued by is Sustainability and is consistently thinking of ways to integrate the same in business and personal prerogatives.

Mohit is reasonably well-read and equally curious about the country and global landscape, be it economic, technological, geopolitical or literary. In between the work routine, he prefers to read, travel and work towards holistic fitness.

Nitin is a very approachable, affable person who is also a well respected industry leader at a. young age. Nitin continues to mentor many aspiring entrepreneurs & start-ups and has also invested in several of them.

As is our advise always on use of social media & exposure to it for children, we reiterate that Moderation in use of #SocialMedia especially by children is important for their #Mentalhealth.  Stop encouraging them to seek validation from strangers.

Specific to Aradhya Bachchan case where she moved High Court to have defaming & false information about her health removed, the court ruled in her favor and ordered removal of such content including videos  speculating on her health. About time media & social media influencers conducted themselves responsibly. Spreading misinformation especially about little children can have very distressing and long term impact on their mind.
