When Vulnerability Meets the Internet: A Psychological Lens on Babil Khan’s Recent Reflections

In the public eye, every move of a public figure is scrutinized—especially when it breaks the curated script of celebrity life. Actor Babil Khan’s recent posts—his emotional blog expressing frustration with the film industry, his disappearance from Instagram, followed by a return and statement that he was “misinterpreted”—created waves of speculation. But beneath the surface of these actions lies something far more human.

As someone who has worked with millions of young people through the Akancha Srivastava Foundation, I want to approach this not through judgment, but through insight—balancing compassion with psychological clarity.

Emotional Dysregulation & Identity Conflict

Babil is not simply expressing confusion; he is navigating an identity crisis. Carrying the legacy of a father like Irrfan Khan, while attempting to carve a unique space in an unforgiving industry, creates immense emotional conflict. This dual burden often leads to emotional dysregulation—expressing deep, raw feelings publicly, then retreating when the consequences feel overwhelming.

This is not immaturity. It’s the natural reaction of a highly sensitive individual trying to survive in a system that doesn’t reward emotional transparency.

Push-Pull Dynamic of Vulnerability

When Babil posted his vulnerable blog, it was a bid for connection, not attention. He exposed emotional truths in a space that is rarely kind to authenticity. But almost immediately, the push-pull dynamic kicked in—openness followed by withdrawal. Deleting the post, disappearing from social media, then returning to say he was misread, reflects what psychologists call post-vulnerability shame. It’s that feeling of “I’ve shown too much” in a space that is quick to distort or dismiss it.

Grief Manifesting Through Industry Disillusionment

There’s another layer to this—unresolved grief. Babil lost not just a parent, but a mentor, a compass, and an emotional anchor. That kind of loss leaves a void, and sometimes, frustration with the industry becomes a vessel through which that grief pours out. His disappointment may not only be about Bollywood—it may be about what was lost when he lost his father, and what this industry failed to honour or preserve.

The grief gets projected onto the system, and every interaction with it feels like a trigger.

The Internet is Not a Safe Space

Social media, though seductive in its immediacy, is a poor container for vulnerable emotions. It can elevate and destroy in the same breath. It is fast, unforgiving, and most dangerously—unforgetting. For someone like Babil, who may be navigating emotional complexity without a stable outlet, the internet becomes a surrogate therapist. But unlike therapy, it gives no confidentiality, no context, and no compassion.

Trolling, misinterpretation, and casual cruelty only amplify self-doubt and anxiety. What was a call for connection becomes a case study in public rejection.

The High Cost of Fame

Fame is often mistaken for freedom, but in truth, it is the opposite. It demands performance, not presence. Public figures—especially young ones—are rarely granted the grace to grow, stumble, or express distress without consequence. Fame magnifies your voice but shrinks your safety.

For someone like Babil, still in the early stages of self-definition, this can create a fractured self: one version for the public, one buried in private pain.

Containment Over Criticism

What Babil needs is not social commentary or digital diagnosis. He needs containment—a psychological term for the act of holding space for someone’s feelings without judgment or escalation. He needs real mentors, safe circles, and environments where the currency is compassion, not currency.

He is not unstable. He is still becoming—and that becoming deserves to happen with dignity.

At the Akancha Srivastava Foundation, we have worked with millions of youth across India who experience this same emotional turbulence—overexposure, isolation, misinterpretation, and pain. They are not broken. They are simply unheard.

Let us create a culture where feeling deeply is not a flaw, but a form of courage.

A Wake-Up Call from Misha Agrawal’s Tragedy

Misha Agrawal was just 24.

A bright, ambitious young woman—founder of Mish Cosmetics, a law graduate preparing to become a judge, and a content creator with over 112,000 Instagram followers. Just two days before her 25th birthday, Misha ended her own life.

Her family has since confirmed that she had been silently battling the pressure of declining followers on social media. What many might consider trivial—follower counts, likes, engagement metrics—had, for Misha, become a matter of worth, identity, and future. Her parents said she tied her value as a person and entrepreneur directly to the numbers on her screen. Her sister shared that Misha had even set a target of reaching 1 million followers as her phone wallpaper—something she had deeply internalized.

Despite her education, her entrepreneurial spirit, and a family that tried to reassure her constantly, Misha felt she was “not good enough” when the metrics didn’t match her expectations. That pain, invisible to most, eventually became unbearable.

As someone who works at the intersection of cyber safety, mental well-being, and digital resilience, I cannot stress this enough:

We are in a crisis of digital identity.

We must urgently redefine how we measure self-worth in the digital age. When social currency is treated as real currency, we risk building identities on sand—fragile, unstable, and subject to collapse at the slightest dip in metrics.

Let’s be clear: follower count is not a reflection of value. Likes do not validate purpose. No algorithm defines who you are.

We need to collectively build stronger emotional scaffolding for young adults navigating these high-pressure platforms. That includes open dialogue, real-world mentorship, and an honest reckoning with how social media distorts self-perception.

This is not just about individual resilience—it’s about a systemic reset.

To Misha’s family: I cannot imagine your pain. But I hear it. And I promise you, we will not let this be just another news story.

We will talk about it—in classrooms, universities, workplaces, and digital spaces where young people are silently struggling. Through the Akancha Srivastava Foundation, we will continue to conduct workshops on digital mental health, educate communities about the toxic side of algorithm-driven validation, and push for stronger emotional resilience training across all age groups.

We will amplify Misha’s story with dignity, not for attention, but to drive meaningful conversations around self-worth, social media pressures, and the urgent need for digital well-being frameworks.

We will keep reminding every young person out there: you are not your follower count. You are not the algorithm. You are human—and that is enough.

Please take care of your mental health.

WhatsApp is one of the most widely used messaging platforms, but cybercriminals have found ways to exploit it. From hacking accounts through social engineering to stealing personal data, scams are on the rise. Today, we’ll break down how scammers target users, the real risks involved, and how you can stay safe.

How Are Scammers Hacking WhatsApp?

Cybercriminals use several tactics to gain access to your WhatsApp account. The most common methods include:

OTP Scams:

You receive an unexpected OTP (one-time password) via SMS or WhatsApp.

A scammer—often impersonating a friend, family member, or even WhatsApp support—calls or messages you, claiming they sent the OTP by mistake and need you to share it.

The moment you share the OTP, they gain control of your account, locking you out.

Call Forwarding Fraud:

Scammers trick you into dialing a specific number (usually disguised as a service request).

This number activates call forwarding on your phone, redirecting incoming calls—including OTP verification calls—to the scammer’s device.

They use this to take over your WhatsApp account and reset your login.

Malicious Links and Phishing Attacks:

Fraudulent messages claim your WhatsApp will be suspended unless you verify your account via a link.

Clicking on the link leads to a fake login page where you unknowingly enter your credentials, allowing hackers to steal your account.

Fake Technical Support Scams:

You receive a message from someone pretending to be WhatsApp support, asking you to confirm your account details or enter a verification code.

WhatsApp will never ask for your personal data via messages—this is always a scam.

WhatsApp Web Hijacking:

Scammers gain temporary access to your phone and secretly scan the QR code to log into WhatsApp Web on their device.

Once logged in, they can read your messages and collect personal data without you noticing.

What Happens When Your WhatsApp Gets Hacked?

Identity Theft: Hackers may impersonate you to scam your contacts, asking for money or sensitive details.

Financial Fraud: Scammers can access linked payment apps and misuse your financial details.

Data Breach: Personal messages, photos, and videos can be leaked or used against you.

Blackmail & Extortion: Criminals might threaten to misuse your data unless you pay a ransom.

How to Secure Your WhatsApp from Hackers

Enable Two-Step Verification:

Go to Settings > Account > Two-step verification and set up a PIN.

Even if a hacker gets your OTP, they won’t be able to access your account without this PIN.

Never Share OTPs:

WhatsApp OTPs are private. NEVER share them, even if someone claims to be from WhatsApp support.

Avoid Clicking Suspicious Links:

Be wary of links sent via unknown contacts or even friends if they seem unusual.

Check for Unauthorized WhatsApp Web Sessions:

Go to Settings > Linked Devices and ensure no unknown devices are logged in.

Turn Off Call Forwarding:

Dial ##21# on your phone to disable all call forwarding.

Educate Your Family & Friends:

Make sure your contacts, especially elderly family members or young users, know about these scams.

What to Do If Your WhatsApp is Hacked?

Immediately log out all devices:

Go to WhatsApp > Settings > Linked Devices > Log out from all devices.

Re-register your WhatsApp account:

Try logging in again with your number and request a new OTP.

Alert WhatsApp Support:

Email support@whatsapp.com with the subject “Lost/Stolen Account” and explain your situation.

Inform Your Contacts:

Let them know your account was compromised and warn them not to respond to unusual messages from you.

The Dark Side of the Ghibli Trend: How Much Data Are You Sharing?

The Ghibli trend is everywhere—soft colors, dreamy landscapes, slow living. It’s beautiful, no doubt. But there’s something most people aren’t talking about: how much private data is being fed into AI models in the name of this aesthetic.

1. You’re Giving AI More Than Just a Pretty Picture

From Ghibli-inspired AI filters to apps that turn your home into a whimsical anime scene, these tools don’t just create art—they collect data. Your face, habits, interests, even location data might be getting stored, analyzed, and repurposed. And once it’s out there, you have no control over how it’s used.

2. AI Knows What You Want Before You Do

The more you engage with this trend, the more AI-driven platforms track your preferences. They learn what kind of visuals you love, what makes you feel nostalgic, what drives you to click ‘buy.’ This data fuels hyper-targeted advertising, subtly nudging you toward products you never planned to purchase.

3. Your Face Isn’t Just Yours Anymore

Uploading your face to AI tools? That data doesn’t just disappear after your cute Ghibli-style portrait is generated. With deepfake technology advancing rapidly, there’s always a risk of misuse—whether for identity theft, unauthorized image use, or worse.

4. Nobody Reads the Fine Print

Most people don’t check the privacy policies of these AI apps, and companies count on that. Some store your data indefinitely, share it with third parties, or even use it to train future AI models. What starts as harmless fun can have long-term privacy consequences.

Think Before You Share

Ghibli-inspired content is beautiful, but at what cost? Before using AI-driven tools, ask yourself: Do I really want to trade my personal data for an aesthetic? Because once it’s out there, it’s out there.

Deepfake Calls: A New Cyber Threat You Can’t Ignore

Imagine getting a video call from a loved one, urgently asking for money or sensitive details. Their face looks real, their voice sounds familiar—but what if it’s not them? This is the terrifying reality of deepfake calls.

Cybercriminals are now using AI-powered deepfake technology to manipulate voice and video in real-time, making fake calls look frighteningly real. They scrape voice and video samples from social media, past calls, or online meetings and use AI to clone them. Victims, caught off guard, believe they’re speaking to a trusted person and end up sharing money, sensitive details, or private information.

How Do You Protect Yourself?

Stay Calm—Scammers Thrive on Panic
Criminals use urgency to make you act without thinking. Whether it’s a distressed family member or a fake emergency, take a moment before reacting.

Use a Safe Word
Have a code or phrase that only you and your trusted contacts know. If a caller can’t confirm it, they aren’t who they claim to be.

Look for Glitches & Unnatural Expressions
AI deepfakes aren’t flawless. Watch for blurry edges, unnatural blinking, or voice delays—these are red flags.

Hang Up & Call Back on a Verified Number
Never continue a call if you have doubts. Disconnect and call the person directly using a saved, verified number.

Never Share Money, OTPs, or Sensitive Info
No legitimate person or organization will ask for sensitive information over a video call. If someone does, it’s a scam.

Report Suspicious Calls Immediately
If you encounter a deepfake scam, report it to cybercrime authorities. Raising awareness is key to stopping this threat.

Why Awareness Matters

Deepfake scams exploit trust and familiarity—and they will only get more sophisticated. But the more we educate ourselves, the harder it becomes for cybercriminals to succeed. Stay alert, verify before you believe, and always question the unexpected.

How the Scam/Issue Works:

Overwhelming Content:

Constant Content Flow: Instagram is flooded with accounts claiming to offer life advice, spiritual guidance, or “life-changing” rituals. These influencers often use catchy headlines, mystical images, and alluring promises that tap into emotional vulnerabilities.

Frequency of Posts: Users are bombarded with daily posts, stories, and reels showcasing what they should be doing in their lives, whether it’s a specific ritual, affirmation, meditation, or guidance for “manifesting” success, love, or health.

Fear-Mongering:

Prophecies and Predictions: Many influencers claim to have supernatural insight, offering prophecies or predicting life-altering events that might happen. They create a sense of urgency or fear, telling followers that their lives will be doomed unless they follow a specific ritual, exercise, or affirmation.

Manipulation: Scare tactics are used, such as “If you don’t follow this ritual, negative energy will overwhelm you,” or “This is the only way to align with the universe.” This plays on people’s fears, leading them to act impulsively.

Unproven Methods:

Lack of Evidence: These influencers often promote rituals, exercises, or affirmations that have no scientific backing or proven efficacy. While spirituality and self-care practices can be valuable, there’s often little to no explanation as to why a specific ritual or practice should work. Followers may end up spending time, energy, and even money on practices that don’t contribute to their well-being.

Self-Proclaimed Gurus: Many of these accounts are run by individuals who claim to have spiritual insight or life-changing wisdom but lack the credentials, training, or practical experience to back their advice.

Many self-proclaimed healers on social media rely on fear-mongering tactics to manipulate their followers into believing they are in urgent need of their services. They often use alarming language, suggesting that unless followers adopt their rituals, practices, or advice, they will face negative outcomes such as bad luck, financial loss, or even health problems. This tactic creates a sense of panic and urgency, making individuals feel as though they are powerless to improve their lives without following these “quick-fix” solutions. What these healers often fail to disclose is that their offerings have no scientific basis and are tailored to prey on emotional vulnerabilities or moments of personal crisis. By tapping into people’s fears, insecurities, or feelings of helplessness, these frauds exploit their trust to sell products, courses, or sessions that promise instant transformation but rarely deliver meaningful results. Their tactics are not about true healing or empowerment, but about profit, and they exploit the very vulnerabilities they claim to heal.

Constant Pressure to Follow Trends:

Social Media Algorithms: Instagram’s algorithm often pushes content that receives high engagement. Influencers who promote extreme or clickbait spiritual advice often get more attention, leading to a continuous cycle of individuals feeling pressured to adopt these practices to stay “spiritually aligned.”

Tactical Self-Promotion: These self-proclaimed “gurus” often promote paid services like one-on-one sessions, courses, or even products (such as crystals, oils, or books) that supposedly support their teachings.

Emotional Overload:

Mental Health Impact: Constant exposure to these overwhelming messages can cause confusion, guilt, and even stress, particularly if individuals feel they are falling short by not following every trend or ritual that is shared.

Compromised Well-Being: The excessive focus on “healing” can detract from addressing real-life mental health or personal development challenges, leaving individuals feeling lost or overwhelmed instead of empowered.

Why It’s Harmful:

Loss of Discernment: People may lose their ability to differentiate between what’s genuinely helpful versus what’s harmful or unsubstantiated. They may adopt practices that aren’t aligned with their true needs or values.

Financial and Emotional Drain: The pressure to buy into the rituals, books, online sessions, or crystals promoted by influencers can lead to financial and emotional exhaustion.

Spiritual Bypassing: Instead of addressing real-life problems or emotional challenges, some individuals may be led to “bypass” deeper, more meaningful work and instead focus on quick fixes that don’t offer long-term growth or healing.

How to Protect Yourself:

Cultivate Discernment:

Question the Motive: Ask yourself why this particular ritual, affirmation, or advice is being promoted. Is it a genuine offering of guidance, or is it designed to make you feel inadequate or fearful? Are there any financial motives behind it?

Check for Credentials: Does the influencer have formal training or experience in the field of spiritual guidance, psychology, or personal growth, or are they simply a self-proclaimed “guru” with no formal qualifications?

Follow What Resonates:

Be Selective: Choose accounts that offer holistic advice, promote genuine self-growth, and align with your values. It’s important to follow voices that encourage empowerment rather than fear or guilt.

Stay True to Your Own Path: Everyone’s spiritual or personal journey is unique. What works for one person may not work for you. Focus on practices that resonate with you personally and don’t force yourself into trends.

Take Breaks from Social Media:
