Vikram Ahuja runs a couple of schools & in his rich experience he has seen impact of technology in various aspects. He shares how balance of any resource in life is important. It’s like a choice of eating every nutritional food in decent quantity.

Should kids be allowed to use smartphones- we asked Vikram Ahuja. In a very simple and pragmatic way he explained that technology is a wonderful thing and it’s use for the purpose fo knowledge gaining is great for teachers as well.

However, when smartphones are handed over to young kids without proper supervision then it’s a problem. Parents might sometimes be too busy to monitor what the child is doing online. That’s unfair to the kid as they may not even know if there’s content they should not be consuming.

Parents & teachers are biggest influencers in a child’s life. If both of these sets hand hold, gently guide the child, internet can be a boundless source of knowledge for everyone. Therefore the question is not should kids be allowed to use smartphones. Question is how much effort we are investing in teaching the kids how to use the smartphones.

Inspector General of Police (Uttar Pradesh)- Navniet Sekera Sir says that we need to be the change we want to see in the world.

IG Navniet Sekera Sir talks about how everyone has to come together to do our bit. It is easy to criticize but change can only come when every single citizen will do their own bit of contribution. World is changed by setting good example.

IG Navniet Sekera narrates his favorite story where a little boy talks about making a difference to one life at a time. Similarly, we need to focus on whatever little change we can make, even if its not very large. If each one can change a single life, it will make the world a better place.  Be the change, says Sir.

In response to a question about women safety, IG Navniet Sekera Sir talks about a 20% reservation for women in Uttar Pradesh Police. He also mentions that though there are lot of desirable changes that need to be made, India is a democracy that gives opportunities & freedom to all genders for their growth.

Sekera Sir also shares a very interesting example of a police station where officers were given strict instructions to be polite, never use harsh language and deal with calmness. He tells us that soon people began to complain that these officers were no good, that they didn’t know how to handle toughened criminals, perpetrators don’t understand politeness.

Sekera Sir gave this example to make a point about changing society as a whole. Police is a reflection of our society. When we will change every aspect of our behavior, thinking, ideology, education only then the police reforms will also be meaningful.

IG Navniet Sekera Sir’s Bio:

With 24 meritorious years in the Indian Police Force, he is an alumnus of IIT Roorkee, went to do MBA from Indian School of Business, Hyderabad & has always been in news for his innovative application of technology for various aspects of policing. He also accepted the Digital excellence award for citizen service in 2017.

One of his most celebrated contributions is his leadership of 1090 Women Power helpline in Uttar Pradesh. Under the leadership of IG Navniet Sekera Sir, this case study of a helpline handled more than 1.4 crore calls from across 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh during his leadership. Leading a service for a state that is as big as being world’s 5^th largest country, was a remarkable feat.

IG Navniet Sekera also inspired a recent MXPlayer web series called- ‘Bhaukaal’ which features his brave journey of last 2 decades & what makes him one of the most loved & respected IPS officers of our country.

Shikha Goel Ma’am is an MPhil graduate in botany from Delhi University, She joined the Indian Forest Service in 1995 and subsequently moved to the Indian Police Service

In her interview with You &I magazine, Shikha Ma’am said:

My hobbies and interests include reading, listening to music, and watching movies. She shared that her biggest challenge is maintaining an effective work-life balance. She added, “Working in a field that’s very demanding is a constant struggle. Especially when you need to make a mark for yourself in a highly male-dominated sector. At every level, you need not only prove yourself but also prove that you’re as good as your male colleagues. You’re under greater scrutiny; proving your mettle is crucial here.” On a parting note, she said, “We have a beautiful history we should be proud of. Let’s ensure that our present becomes a remarkable history for the future, and that people can look up to it.”

Swati Ma’am  believes that one day of “Womens’ Day” celebration is only symbolic. All genders need to be respected equally every single day. Equal opportunity to education & counselling would make sure we don’t need a specific day for any genders.

4. Received the distinguished Humphrey Leadership Award, Precious Daughter of India’ Award for  services in the field of women safety and women empowerment

Deepa is currently the world number one in the F-53 category. She has won accolades for her participation in various adventure sports.  She won a Silver medal at the 2016 Summer Paralympics in the shot put.

Deepa is also an Arjuna awardee (2012) before receiving the prestigious Padma Shri award in 2017. She is the only Indian woman to win medals in 3 consecutive Asian Para Games (2010, 2014, 2018). She has won 58 national & 23 International medals across all disciplines to date.

Deepa Malik was the first person ever to receive a license for invalid (modified) rally vehicle a case she consistently pursued for 19 months in Maharashtra.

It’s an honor to host her on our podcast in this special “International Women’s Day” 2020 episode.

Sai Krishna tells us to understand very clearly that there is no escape from police if you misbehave on the internet. No veil of anonymity can save you. All those thinking that they can create anonymous accounts and their location will never be found but that’s a misconception. Every single id can be traced, every id can be connected to the person operating it.

Sai Krishna also shares that reporting of crimes has become easier. There are various options where you can report via websites, helplines, whatsapp and more. All such information is available on Google for your own state. Which clearly means that there is no escape for offenders!

Lastly, he talks about how there is no better service to nation than joining the force. Police is an enriching experience that gives you an opportunity to actively participate in nation building, protecting people & helping in growth of India

Akancha addresses one of the most frequently asked questions especially asked about children who seem to be using these tools frequently.

Akancha has been leading this initiative for last 3 years raising awareness on this topic & you can watch many more videos on this topic on the channel. She says that indeed social media can be a good influence IF AND ONLY IF it’s used in the right manner & with right intentions.

As Akancha points out, its not the platforms, its how we use it. Even a good thing in excess is injurious, same applies to social media. It can be a great influence when used in moderation.

Internet can not become a replacement for real world friends or activities especially for children.

Social media use by children needs handholding by parents so that they can gently guide the kids. Children are bright, they only need to be able to distinguish between right & wrong with your help.

One also needs to watch for which games children are interested in, are they indulging in any incorrect language, addiction to any platform or are they looking for validation from strangers.

Social media can be a good influence in terms of teaching community learning, collaboration, knowledge treasure trove, team building, information gathering, improving language skills & more.

DCP Saroj Kumari Maam (Gujarat Police) talks about  good touch vs bad touch. She leads an initiative called “Samajh Sparsh Ki” which translates to – Understanding various kinds of touch & differentiating between good touch vs bad touch.

Saroj Ma’am explains why we need to teach this early to kids so that they don’t fall prey to sexual harassment. Sometimes, children are unable to speak up against their abusers due to fear. That’s why they need to be taught what is good touch vs bad touch. They need to be taught that even if its an elder known to them, they should be able to identify a wrong touch.

Saroj Ma’am tells us that Gujarat Police has taken special efforts to teach kids about good touch vs bad touch. They have gone to schools, coached teachers, parents on this subject. Protecting children at tender age is critical to a healthy, safe society.

Cyber hygiene means that we keep habits that help us maintain a safe and secure internet identity. Jietndra Sir shares few very simple exercises like keeping secure passwords, not sharing passwords, immediately informing financial institutions of any mishappenings.

Jitendra Sir says that just like we still get sick sometimes, we might become victims even after keeping good cyber hygiene. In that scenario, we have to immediately inform our loved ones, report to the police. He also tells the families of victims to provide better emotional support in such a scenario.
